Palace declared uninhabitable

Huis ten Bosch suffered badly during World War II. Thanks to the efforts of the palace intendant, a plan by the occupying German forces to demolish the building to make way for the anti-tank trench did not go ahead.

Huis ten Bosch was uninhabitable after liberation. The valuable artworks were moved to safety in time, but walls, garrets and floors were damaged by bullets and shrapnels.
