Walking tour
Discover how the Atlantic Wall changed The Hague permanently
The walking route (8.5 km / 3 hours) focuses on the area between Madurodam and the Bomen-en Bloemenbuurt neighbourhood. During the war, streets and parks here made way for a wide anti-tank trench. After the war, the architect Dudok designed a completely new layout with more light, openness and foliage and better access for the burgeoning road traffic.
There are seventeen information panels along the walking route, which tell the story of the demolition of entire streets and large-scale evacuations, the anti-tank trench and anti-tank wall, as well as reconstruction.
