Typical example of a local command centre
On the orders of the occupying German forces, a bunker complex was built on either side of Badhuisweg: Widerstandsnest 318. The military command of the bastion of Scheveningen was based here. The staff stayed in existing buildings during times of relative calm, but if there was a risk of danger, they continued their work from inside the bunkers.
The complex is largely intact. A large part is underground in the woodlands of the Nieuwe Scheveningse Bosjes; the sections above ground are now covered with soil. A few bunkers can be seen at the Atlantikwall Museum Scheveningen and can be visited on many Sundays.
There are two underground bunkers between the buildings on the opposite side of the street. There is one above ground: the former munitions depot with walls of three metres thick and a ceiling of three and a half metres thick now forms the ground floor of a residential dwelling (Badhuisweg 139a).
